Educational Programs

Fall Conference: The WCA sponsors a conference each fall during October at the Heidel House Resort in Green Lake Wisconsin to provide for the continuing education of our members and others who are wish to attend. Again in 2008, scholarships for State of Wisconsin Correctional Chaplains will be available through a generous grant from the St. Luke the Healer Foundation. The dates for the 2008 conference are October 26-28. This year, the conference will be held jointly with the NACC as a regional conference. The theme is "Many Faiths, One Purpose." Through participation in this conference, participants will learn: to identify ministry needs of persons of other faiths; some limitations on providing ministry to persons of other faiths; and guidelines for dialogue with persons of other faiths. Plenary speakers will be: Fr. Jan de Jon, SCJ, STD, (Roman Catholic), president-rector of Sacred Heart School of Theology; Chaplain Abdul-Hafiz (Muslim), supervisory chaplain at the MDC Los Angeles Federal Prison; Meg McClaskey (Jewish), Diverse Perspectives; and Rev. Tonen O'Connor (Buddhist), Milwaukee Zen Center. The banquet speaker will be Rich Gruber, VP, Mercy Health System, Janesville, WI. Plan now to attend.

For 2008 APC members may claim up to 12 categorgy 1 continuing education hours and NACC may claim up to 12 continuing education hours. The 2008 conference brochure and registration form is available here in Adobe Acrobat format.

Newsletter: The Wisconsin Chaplaincy Newsletter is regularly published and includes information about the WCA and upcoming events, job postings, advocacy issues concerning chaplaincy, etc.

Directory of Institutional Chaplains: Each year the WCA publishes a directory of institutions known to be employing chaplains in Wisconsin as well as a listing of those chaplains with faith group/judicatory affiliation, certifications, address, phone number, and e-mail address as available. Included is contact information for the judicatories and faith groups that support us. Finally, contact information for the members of the Association's Board of Directors and officers is provided.
